Indigenous to the tropical forests of South and Central America, the Palo Santo tree has been a staple of native tribes dating back at least to the time of the Incan civilization. It's name means "Holy Stick," and as such, plays a significant role in traditional ceremonies and spiritual practices.
Palo Santo sticks are traditionally harvested from fallen branches on the forest floors. However, because the product is growing in popularity in the North Americas and beyond, the demand for Palo Santo is quickly surpassing the natural supply ability. Many natives rely on the exported goods as their source of incomes, and have resorted to cutting down entire trees in order to meet the demand. In order to curtail the destruction of native lands, a campaign was started allowing native suppliers to become certified for ethically sourced products if they are able to pass certain regulations.
Although the Palo Santo tree itself is very low on the endangered species watchlist, It is important that we protect Mother Earth and treat her forests with respect.
This item is for one stick of Palo Santo. Please add additional quantities to your order if you'd like to receive more.
